Maybe change the format?

10 Aug

Just had this through on email after buying something:

Dear Sir / Madam

Thank you for your order *****; the invoice for this is attached.
Please either print it off or save it to your computer and keep it safe for your records.
If it won’t open correctly, you may not have a PDF reader installed. You can download one for free Here.
Thank you for choosing to shop with us.

How you save the file to your computer varies. The two most common methods are below for your convenience.
We recommend having a folder just for your invoices so you can keep them all together.

Method 1 – i.e. Microsoft Outlook
Right Click on the attachment name.
Click ‘Save As…’ in the pop up menu.
Rename the file to something memorable or meaningful if you wish.
Select where you want to save it to.
Click ‘Save’.

Method 2 – i.e. Hotmail
Open the attachment, usually by double clicking on it’s name.
At the top left of the window, click ‘File’, then ‘Save As…’
Rename the file to something memorable or meaningful if you wish.
Select where you want to save it to.
Click ‘Save’.

Yours sincerely

Surely if an invoice is that complicated to open/save then instead of offering loads of help it would be better to just change the way invoices are sent?

Luck’s like being hit in the head

2 Jun

This video (via 37signals) got me thinking about luck again.

I like to think of luck as being a bit like having an accident. Being hit in the head the most comedic of a potentially devastating list I could choose from.

You can’t really choose when it happens to you, but you can make it a lot more likely to happen. Wandering through the middle of some playing fields on a sunny day, learning the right skills and acquiring knowledge to do a job you love.

When luck, or randomness, seems to favour you – it’s up to you what you do with it. I see people get lucky breaks all the time (I’m likely pretty blind to my own). And they do nothing with them.

Those that perceive themselves to be lucky are the ones who prepare themselves for luck. And do something with it.

It takes two to teach

It’s not possible for one person to be a teacher.

If no-one’s learning, then no-one’s teaching.
